| As the cold weather sets in, we see an increase in home fires, many of which can be prevented with simple safety steps. Letβs keep our community safe this winter!
1.) Have Working Smoke Alarms β
Test your alarms monthly β
Replace any alarms older than 10 years β
Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, hallway, and on every level of your home
2.) Install Carbon Monoxide Detectors CO is invisible and deadly. Make sure you have alarms near sleeping areas and fuel-burning appliances.
3.)Donβt Overload Outlets or Extension Cords πUse one heat-producing appliance per outlet. Overloading circuits is one of the top causes of winter fires. π Appliances like space heaters, toasters, coffee makers, and hair dryers pull a lot of power. Plugging more than one of these into the same outlet β or into an extension cord β can overheat wiring and cause a fire within minutes.
4.) Make a Home Fire Escape Plan Home Fire Escape Planner is a simple but powerful tool. β
Draw a map of your home β
Identify two ways out of every room β
Practice your plan with your family β day and night
β° Early Detection Saves Lives. Smoke and CO alarms give you the precious seconds you need to escape safely. π Call 911 as soon as the emergency happens
