Odor of Gas at Hardee's

February 12, 2019

At approximately 7:06am, Blacksburg units were dispatched to 914 N. Mountain Street in reference to an odor of gas. On arrival, units inspected a gas-powered grill in the kitchen area that had residual gas odor around it. Units cut off gas at the main valve just behind the grill. The exterior gas meter was examined as well. No evidence of leaking was identified. Gas meters were deployed and air quality was monitored throughout the structure. Gases were determined to be at a safe level. Oxygen levels sustained at 20.8%, the normal amount found in a typical atmosphere.

When using gas-operated equipment, especially during the initial ignition phase, it is normal to smell the fuel product during start up. This is due to the residual fuel left in the feeder lines while not in use. Always use caution while operating any type of cooking device.

The restaurant was cleared for business.
