Fuel Spill at BP Fueling Station

September 23, 2018

On 9/22/18 at approximately 3:00pm, Blacksburg units responded to a report of fuel leaking from the pumps at the BP on N. Mountain St.

Upon arrival, units quickly deployed oil dry and pads to contain the fuel.

Certain fuels are called hydrocarbons. This means that they do no dissolve or mix with water. In the event of a fuel leak, do not attempt to dissolve or disperse fuel with water. This can lead to it quickly spreading. Also keep in mind that water alone will not suppress a flammable or combustible liquid fire.
