At approximately 9:48am, units were dispatched to reports of a vehicle fire involving an electrical wheelchair. On arrival, the wheelchair was noted emitting smoke and fire. The occupant was located approximately 10 feet from the wheelchair on the ground. The occupant stated he did not suffer any injury and declined medical treatment. Units deployed a Carbon Dioxide (C02) fire extinguisher and extinguished the fire within a few minutes of arrival. We used Carbon Dioxide in place of traditional water due to the classification of the fire (electrical).

Keep your electrical appliances and items in good working condition. Inspect and maintain them regularly. Make sure that you keep in contact with family and friends who may use these types of wheelchairs, or other electrically-powered mobility devices.
